Upon setting up my MagicJack, I immediately received a call near midnight, which, after research, appears to be a resurrected scam from 2011.
Mystery Calls from MagicJack: Scam or Mistake?
Summary — +12022398934
Expert Opinion
Around midnight last week I was reminded how persistent these mystery calls can get. Callers using the 202‑239‑8934 prefix often hide behind a MagicJack VoIP service, making the source look local while they push bogus prizes, fake debt notices, or vague business offers. Most reports describe strange accents, odd voicemail scripts, and repeated hang‑ups—classic hallmarks of a scam operation. If you receive a call, let it go to voicemail, block the number, and report it to your carrier and the FTC. Never share personal or financial details, and consider a call‑blocking app for extra peace of mind.
