Scam alert: deceptive calls using the Citibank name

Despite initial skepticism, the message proved legitimate, as the caller correctly identified my card and provided a case number, advising me to contact the number on the back of my card for verification.

The caller ID displayed 'CITI' with the number 1-210-677-1346 more than an hour after the call. Since CITIBANK rarely calls me, I decided to contact CITI using the 800 number on my credit card instead of the provided number. Upon speaking with Customer Service, they couldn't access my account due to a 'hold' placed by the CITI Fraud Department. After being transferred to the Fraud Department, they confirmed they were trying to reach me regarding suspicious activity on my account, listing eleven charges from the past few days that I hadn't made. Thus, it seems this number is legitimate, and for those who are cautious, calling the 800 number on the back of your credit card and asking for the Fraud Department can provide clarification.

Although this is a legitimate Citibank number, it is not for the fraud department but rather for customer support regarding card and online issues
