Expert Opinion
Imagine receiving a call from an unknown number that claims to be from a bank or debt collector, yet offers no clear identification. When faced with this, don’t share personal information and hang up if the caller refuses to name their company. Log the call details—time, number, and any recorded script—to help report the incident to the FTC or your state’s consumer protection agency. Consider adding the number to your phone’s block list and enable caller‑ID verification services. If you suspect a legitimate debt, contact the creditor directly using a verified phone number, not the one that called you.
