Why Those Name‑Check Calls Are a Scam!

Expert Opinion
Like a shadow that flickers and disappears, these calls come and go the moment you confirm a name. The pattern is unmistakably a name‑verification scam: a rapid accent, a request for a specific employee, and an abrupt hang‑up once you comply. Block the number, alert your phone carrier, and advise coworkers to treat any unsolicited name check as suspicious. Keep a log of the timestamps and exact phrasing; it helps when reporting to the FTC or your IT security team. If you work in a shared office, consider a centralized caller‑ID blocklist to stop the nuisance before it reaches the desk.
