Expert Opinion
Imagine receiving a robotic warning that the Canada Revenue Agency has opened a criminal investigation and demands thousands of dollars. That startling scenario is a classic scam and extortion designed to prey on fear and confusion. Callers use official‑sounding language, claim legal action, and pressure you to pay immediately. Never return the call, never provide personal or banking details, and don’t click any links they send. Hang up, block the number, and report the incident to the FTC or your local consumer‑protection agency. Keep records of the call in case you need to file a complaint, and remind friends that the CRA will never demand money over the phone.
