Global Tel Link inmate calls – what to watch for!

Repeated calls from this number have been a nuisance, with a caller ID displaying 713-981-0098, claiming an inmate from LA County or Eastside Correctional Center is trying to reach me or my relative, which is clearly a scam.

This is undoubtedly a scam, and those who fall for it are being deceived.

I just recieved a call from this exact number, an automated voice claimed an inmate was calling - the inmate's name was mumbled. It asked me to press 1 if I wanted to accept it - I pressed one and it told me I coud add credit, as soon as that came up I hung up. Definatly fishy, and looking here, it confirms my suspitions that its a scam.

I recieved a call from this number, and they asked me to pick up an inmate from a prison, but they didnt give me any informations, which is quite ridiculus

On November 1, 2009, at 12:30 PM, I received a call that began with a recording, requesting acceptance of a collect call from an inmate at a jail, though the inmate's identity was not disclosed; the recording proceeded to outline the process for setting up an account using a credit card, which raised suspicions of a potential scam aimed at obtaining credit card information or illicit deposits.

The voicemail message left on my cell phone was vague, it mentioned a correctional facility, possibly in LA or Houston, but didnt specify who they were or who they were trying to reach, it seemed like a obvious scam, so I deleted it, dont give them your credit card informations.

A call was received from this number, claiming that a family member was in need of medical attention while in custody, and requesting that I call back on a different number, which supposedly would forward all calls to their phone, but this turned out to be a scam

This telephone number claimed to be from the Theo Lacy Facility in Orange County, California, stating that an inmate was trying to make a collect call, but upon further investigation, it was discovered to be a Texas number, and the call was deemed a scam as the individual in question was actually standing beside the recipient.

Repeated calls are being made, supposedly from North County Correctional Facility, which seems like an obvious scam, so it's best to ignore and block the number if possible.

By answering this call, I discovered it to be a scam, where an inmate claimed a relative was injured and needed medical attention, attempting to trick me into sending money via Western Union, a tactic that is not used in legitimate situations, and thus, I warn others not to follow the caller's instructions.
