This morning, I got a call from this 800 number, and after answering and greeting the caller twice to ensure a good connection, I didn't get to speak with anyone, which was odd, especially since I had also received a text from PNC about a fraud attempt on my card, making me wonder if my card information is compromised.
Is that PNC loss‑prevention call legit or a scam?

Expert Opinion
Getting calls that claim to be PNC loss‑prevention and ask for the last four digits of your card feels unsettling. The safest move is to end the call before sharing any personal data and hang up. Verification should be done by dialing the number on the back of your card or logging into your online banking portal—never use the callback number they provide. If the call was unexpected, consider reporting it to PNC’s fraud department and to the FTC or your carrier’s spam‑blocking service. Enable a call‑blocking app, set a strong transaction‑alert threshold, and regularly monitor statements for unauthorized activity.

An automated call allegedly from PNC alerted me to potential unauthorized activity. The caller identified herself as Happiness, prompting me to hang up and verify through the official 800 number on my card. The verification process led me to ABUSEPNC, where I was assured it was a legitimate call regarding an automatic withdrawal issue due to an incorrect expiration date. I was advised to contact the relevant company to provide the correct date. It's worth noting that despite this number being flagged as a potential scam, the call was legitimate.
