How to handle Great Lakes phone outreach!
Summary — +18002364300
Expert Opinion
If you get a call from the 1‑800‑236‑4300 line, it’s most likely Great Lakes, the federal student‑loan servicer that also acts as a debt collector. They’ll usually verify your address, confirm a past‑due balance, or ask for a reference you listed. Never give out your full Social Security number over the phone – they should already have it on file if you’re a borrower. Instead, ask for a written confirmation or call the official number on your loan statement. If you’re unsure, hang up, look up the number on Great Lakes’ website, and let them contact you by mail or a secure portal.
