Merchant Services scam calls – what to watch for!

Expert Opinion
It’s odd how often the same script shows up from the same number, promising refunds for mysterious overcharges. Most callers claim to be from “Merchant Services” and pressure you to share merchant IDs, statements, or tax info. That tactic is a classic phishing move: they create urgency, cite PCI compliance, and request sensitive data. Never hand over account numbers, banking details, or personal identifiers without verifying the caller through your known provider’s official channel. Hang up, log the call details, and add the number to your do‑not‑call list. Consider reporting the incident to the FCC or your state consumer protection agency for further action.
