Expedia call scam? How to protect yourself!

Expedia's website was found to be misinformation, with a supposed free cancellation policy actually incurring a 30% fee, and the advertised oceanfront view being a parking lot and highway view instead

A voicemail was left by a female voice, her message was: "Hello, my name is Andy and I'm calling from Expedia..." and she gave the expedia customer service number as 800-397-3342, it sound like a legit call but i didnt initiate it

Receiving calls from this number requires caution, as it may be Expedia or a scammer using caller ID cloning technology to impersonate someone else, similar to fraudulent calls from overseas claiming to be from a different location.

After booking a car rental with a supposed free booking, issues arose with the insurance, which wasn't correctly set up, and it seemed like a potential scam, especially since the booking was made through Expedia, and a charge of $40 was withdrawn without authorization.

A similar situation recently occurred, where an email prompted me to call the provided numbers to 'complete the process', despite already having received a confirmation. Upon calling, I encountered a woman with a pronounced accent who continually apologized while placing me on extended holds. After eventually hanging up, I contacted Expedia directly using the website's listed number, and they confirmed my flight was in order. I then forwarded the suspicious email to them for verification, but have yet to receive a response. As a precaution, I intend to block these potentially bogus numbers.

Beware, this number is involved in a scam and it's best to ignore it.

A similar incident occurred, resulting in a connection to someone in the US, and concerns have been raised about potential extortionate phone bills, although the hotel has confirmed that the booking remains in place.

We've just had a similair experiance with a hotel.com booking, where they sent a confirmation email with a booking reference and stated they'd charged my card, then we recieved several phone messages and emails from Lodge ops, initialy without headers, but later with expedia and hotels.com headers, wich seemed more authentic, but what's concerning is that I was given a uk telephone number that conects to someone in the USA, and they also provided the above number to call, when I contacted hotel.com, they confirmed the booking, but I wonder if anyone who's called the bogus numbers has recieved a phone bill yet?
