The individual on the phone implied there was an issue with my account, despite my payments being up to date; they also requested the first five digits of my social security number, which is unusual as typically only the last four are asked for.

Apparently, this number belongs to M&T Mortgage company, which makes courtesy calls to remind customers about mortgage payments, even if they have a 15-day grace period.
For over a year, this number has been calling and leaving messages for someone else, despite being blocked multiple times.

I expressed skepticism, suggesting it might be a scam and refused to provide any information unless they sent a formal letter. After researching the number online, I found it was associated with M & T Bank, so I contacted them using the number on my mortgage statement. It was confirmed to be M&T Bank, and I instructed them not to contact me in this manner unless my account was in arrears, as I do not conduct business over the phone.
