Expert Opinion
A spoofed caller ID is like a masked thief slipping through a door you thought was locked. When a call claims to be from USAA, treat it as a red flag until you verify the source. Never disclose Social Security numbers, account details, or payment information to an unsolicited caller. Hang up if the person evades answering basic questions about the business purpose. Use the official USAA phone number or website to confirm any outreach, and consider registering the unwanted number with the National Do Not Call Registry. Block the number on your device, and report the incident to the FTC or your state consumer protection agency. Keeping personal data private is the simplest defense.
