During the conversation, the person asked for Carol twice, and upon being told it was the wrong number, they attempted to solicit help for a police collection, at which point I ended the call.
Police fund scam calls – how to stop them!

Expert Opinion
Picture this: a voice claims to represent a police‑fund charity and pressures you for a donation. The script often mentions veterans, harsher sentences, or envelopes that will be mailed, then asks for credit‑card details. Callers sound robotic, mispronounce names, and hang up when you request a callback. These hallmarks point to a classic scam targeting goodwill. Never share personal or financial information, and ask for official documentation before considering any contribution. Block the number, report it to the FTC or your state’s consumer protection office, and consider adding the caller to a Do‑Not‑Call list. Staying skeptical and verifying independently are your best defenses.
