A mysterious voice message was left by a woman claiming to have been hired by a law office, stating that she would be serving papers at my workplace or residence on Monday and that I must be available to sign them, or else they would be returned to the law office, potentially causing me to miss a court date; she also provided the law office's phone number and claimed knowledge of the last four digits of my social security number.
Legal‑style debt collector scam – what to do!
Summary — +18302655005
Expert Opinion
Earlier today, a call from the number +18302655005 popped up on a caller’s screen and quickly turned aggressive. The voice claimed to be from a legal office, rattled off the last four digits of a Social Security number, and threatened arrest unless a large payment was made. This pattern matches a classic debt collector scam that pretends to have legal authority to intimidate victims. Hang up immediately, never share banking or personal details, and block the number. Report the incident to your state attorney general or consumer protection agency, and consider placing a fraud alert on your credit files. Keeping records of the call can help authorities track the operation.
