Expert Opinion
Never share your passcode with an unsolicited caller. If a call shows up as AT&T but you have no account, treat it as a red flag. Scam callers often use familiar brand names to trick you into revealing personal data or paying a fake bill. Hang up immediately, block the number, and verify any alleged debt by contacting the official carrier through a known 800‑number or online portal. Do not confirm your name, address, or payment details over the phone. Report persistent harassment to your phone provider and, if applicable, to the FTC’s complaint site. Keeping a log of call times can help when you file a complaint.

Someone pretended to be AT&T about an overdue bill on a former account, saying I didn’t return my phone in time. They were pushy and impatient. I’m no longer an AT&T client and still keep the old handset I bought ages ago, so I checked a nearby AT&T store and their records—nothing. Customer service said the same, nada, lol.
