Root Technology scam calls – what to watch for!

Posing as Common Wealth Bank in NY, the caller claimed to have deposited funds into my account and requested that I return the money via a money gram, a clear indication of a scam.

After experiencing critical error popups on my new laptop, I contacted the real Microsoft for assistance and later received a suspicious call from 'Root Technologies' claiming to be the Microsoft security team.

On 4/4/18 at 7:20 AM, a call was received from this number, warning that the computer was allegedly infected and would result in data loss.

The experiences shared above are identical to mine; upon contacting them via Skype, it became apparent they were likely of Indian or Pakistani origin, indicating another potential scam.

It's almost amusing that these scammers, who reportedly hijacked my number years ago, are still using the same old tactics, such as impersonating the IRS one day and Microsoft the next, and I'm waiting for the day they claim to be the President, which would be the epitome of absurdity.

My parents were targeted by a supposed hacker, which I immediately recognized as a scam; it's best to disregard this number.
