Expert Opinion
Several users have reported receiving calls from scammers posing as "process servers" or claiming to represent legal entities. The callers often provide a fake case number, threaten legal action over old debts, and pressure victims into making payments or revealing personal information. Common tactics include creating a sense of urgency by referencing pending legal matters, claiming documents are sealed, and attempting to scare victims by mentioning they might be served at work. Despite providing accurate debt details, these calls are fraudulent, especially when the caller’s number shows as private or unavailable. It’s crucial to remain cautious if contacted by unknown numbers or if the caller’s story seems suspicious. Never share personal information or make payments without verifying the legitimacy of the claim. Always double-check with your local courthouse or creditor to confirm any legal actions. If unsure, hang up and report the incident. Stay alert to avoid falling for these scams.
