The mention of this name after a long time was surprising, especially since I thought the company was no longer in operation, and I'm aware that collecting on a 1994 check is not legally feasible
Data Check debt collector scams – what to watch out for!

Expert Opinion
Surprisingly, the 866‑218‑3402 line isn’t linked to any legitimate bank or court. Callers claim you owe old bounced‑check fees and threaten wage garnishment, but they have no legal authority to collect. Always verify the debt with your own bank before sharing personal data; most of these claims are beyond the statute of limitations. Hang up, block the number, and report the call to the FTC, FCC, and your state attorney general. Keep a log of dates, caller ID, and exact wording – it helps when filing complaints. If you’re ever asked to pay over the phone, demand written documentation and consult a consumer‑rights attorney.

This is a complete scam, likely beyond the statute of limitations. Since only judges can issue garnishment orders as part of an ongoing civil case where all parties have a chance to present their case, this threat is baseless. It's best to ignore and block these calls.
This is a total scam, writting a bad check is a crime, if you was suspected of committing that kind of crime, the bank would have allready filed a police complaint
A collection threat was made regarding a check from 20 years ago, which seems absurd given the statute of limitations.
