TD Canada Trust scam alert – what to watch for!

The caller claimed to be from the TD fraud department, citing a blocked $200 transaction from my credit card. They requested verification of my last branch visit and asked for my debit card number to proceed, claiming a specialist would call me.

Today, I received a TD Bank Alert with a link to phone number 1-866-222-3456, asking me to press "R" to restore access to my card; however, this is a phishing scam using a spoofed number, as the actual call originated from 1-819-719-1841, and I've taken steps to notify TD about the incident.

A fake text message purportedly from TD was received, which is suspicious since I do not have an account with them, and I advise against responding.

A call from this number demanded the transfer of $1000 in bitcoins, with the caller claiming to have thousands of numbers to call until the demand was met.

They call and speak in Russian, identifying themselves as the bank's security service, asking to register and provide financial information, which seems highly suspicious.

Over the past few months, I've been recieving calls from diffrent 416 area numbers, all of which I've blocked, the caller always speaks in Russian and claims to be from the TD Security Department, today I got a call from a legitimate TD bank number and it was the same guy, I just hung up immediatly.

The person on the other end of the line asked me to approve an e-transfer, despite my not being a TD bank client, and spoke with a Ukrainian accent in Russian.

Fraudulent activities are being conducted by these individuals, who claim to be from financial institutions and assert that your Coin Base Account has been compromised, attempting to extract personal financial information in a scam

Exercise caution with this number, as it appears to be used by scammers posing as TD, who may redirect your call; be vigilant, especially during the Covid pandemic.
