Expert Opinion
Imagine getting a call that says you’re a reference for a student loan you never signed up for – it’s a curveball that catches many off guard. The pattern from +1‑866‑363‑5638 points to Nelnet’s outbound outreach, often framed as a debt collector trying to locate co‑signers or verify references. If you’re unsure, ask for a written verification, note the agent’s name, and hang up before sharing personal data. Check your credit report for any unknown loans, and consider placing a do‑not‑call block on the number. Staying calm and confirming the caller’s legitimacy protects you from potential scams and unwanted collection pressure.
