Expert Opinion
Imagine receiving a text that screams “CALL ROBERT WHITMAN IMMEDIATELY” and threatens legal action. That script matches a well‑known scam where fraudsters pose as a mediation department to harvest personal information or coerce payments. Never share your Social Security number, bank details, or confirm debts over a cold call. Hang up, block the number, and report the incident to the FTC or your state attorney general. Keep a written record of the message, and if you’ve already given info, consider a credit freeze and monitor your accounts. Staying skeptical and verifying any official request through known channels is the quickest way to stay safe.
