Scam Alert: $200 Gift Card Call from Consumer Discount Network
Summary — +18773069996
Expert Opinion
Imagine getting a call promising a $200 gift card that vanishes the moment you dial back. The script you heard—gift‑card code, thick accent, background noise—is a classic telemarketing scam aimed at harvesting personal data and inflating phone bills. Hang up immediately and never provide name, address, or payment info. Use your phone’s block feature, report the number to the FTC or your carrier, and consider a call‑blocking app. Keep a written note of any details in case you need to file a complaint. Staying skeptical and protecting your PII are the best defenses against these relentless scams.

After returning the call, I was asked for my name, address, and other details by a man named Mark Johnson, who had an Indian accent and was working in a loud call center environment. They provided a gift ID code, which they requested when I called them back. However, I intentionally gave them the wrong code. Despite this, the person continued with their script, asking for my information. When I inquired if the code I provided was valid, they admitted it wasn't, but still offered to send the gift if I provided my information. It's absurd that these individuals feel entitled to call me, especially since they're not a non-profit organization and shouldn't have access to my number unless I inadvertently shared it online or the phone company provided it to them.
