A scam call was received on October 10, 2023, claiming to be from DTE about a serious issue, but it was confirmed as a scam when I contacted my DTE representative
DTE Energy spoof alert – what to watch for!

Expert Opinion
Check caller ID and listen for red flags when you receive a voicemail claiming an urgent DTE Energy issue. Spoofed numbers often mimic the official 800‑477‑4747 prefix, but the follow‑up line will usually direct you to an unfamiliar extension. Verify any critical peak or “dynamic pricing” alerts by logging into your account or contacting the utility through a known website, not the number left in the message. Never share personal or payment info over a callback that was unexpected. If the request feels vague, hang up and report the incident to your provider’s fraud department. Staying skeptical protects your account from both scams and poor business practices.

What prompted you to rush to a phone number look-up site without any logical reason too?
In my opinon, it's not a scam, just very poor bussiness practices, i've had the plan for 3 years and can count on one hand the number of times critical peak happend, i dont remeber it ever being invoked so easilly.
This service claims to issue 'Critical Peak event' warnings due to high temperatures, which seems like a scam asking for payment via gift card to avoid electricity shutoff
After contacting DTE via Twitter DM and providing my account information, they confirm it was a communication from the Dynamic Peak Pricing department about a Critical Peak event, but they should of just said it in the VM, they didnt give me enought notice
This is a total scam, a voicemail from a robot, spoofed to apear to be from DTE
Upon investigation, it appears the caller-id can be spoofed to display the DTE number, yet the provided number does not match any DTE listing, and the message, though vague, claims urgency; given my account is in order, this is likely a scam.
Apparently, contacting the actual phone number for DTE proved to be a waste of time, as they instructed me to dial a different number instead
I got an automated voicemail from this number, saying it was an urgent notice about my account, but I'm not buying it, it sounds like a scam
I've received the same call, which is unusual since I have credit on my account and this isn't the typical number they use to contact me.
The local energy company called, but the number only produced a beep when dialed back
