Expert Opinion
Never reply to an unexpected text that claims you owe money or threatens legal action. Treat any message from "Robert Whitman" or a "Mediation Department" as suspicious, especially when it asks for personal info or a call back to a toll‑free number. Verify the claim by contacting the real creditor directly using known contact details, not the ones in the message. Block the originating number and report it to the FCC or your phone carrier. Educate family members so they recognize the same patterns, and keep a log of such texts to help authorities track the scam. Stay cautious and protect your data.
