Block the number if you can, and watch for similar texts that push you to call back. If you ever get a legitimate verification call, it will come from an official Discover ID and will never ask for your SSN over the phone.

It's frustrating that certain companies, including AT&T and USAA, use Toll Free Call identifications instead of displaying their actual names, which can lead to confusion and potentially conceal scam attempts.
When I called, they informed me that it was not one of their numbers.
Following an email from my mutual funds company, I was informed that I will be required to recieve a call or text with a two-digit code to access my account, supposedly as an added security mesure, however, if somone has acces to my computer and password, its likely they also have my phone, so its not much of an added security feature, just an inconvienience in my opinon.
