Today, I received a voice message from this number, which I tried to call back, but the person on the other end had a thick accent, mispronounced my name, and seemed to be using an old name, so I'll be blocking all similar numbers.
Legal threat scam call – what to do!
Summary — +18883717283
Expert Opinion
Late evening at home, a sudden voicemail claims you owe a court or face a warrant. The script usually mentions a fake process server, legal papers, or a pending lawsuit and urges you to call an 888 number within minutes. Never return the call, because the only goal is to extract payment or personal data. Verify any claim by contacting the courthouse or the alleged creditor directly using official numbers, not the one in the message. Block the caller, report the number to the FTC and your phone carrier, and educate family members about the typical urgency and identity‑theft tactics used in these scams.
