Mystery verification code service – is it safe?

Expert Opinion
One time passcode I never asked for keeps showing up on my phone, and that’s a red flag. Unsolicited verification codes are often used by scammers to get you to call back or expose personal info. Treat any unexpected code as suspicious and do not reply to the number. Verify the source by checking the account activity directly on the service’s official website or app, not through the link or number in the text. Use built‑in two‑factor authentication that sends codes via a trusted app instead of a phone call. Block the caller, report it to your carrier, and consider adding the number to a spam‑filter list.
