Expert Opinion
Like a wolf in a sheep’s clothing, these calls masquerade as legal threats to force payment. The pattern—multiple missed calls, claims you’ll be arrested, demands for cash via prepaid cards—matches classic debt collector scams that violate the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Never share personal or banking details, and don’t send money to a prepaid card or fax. Hang up, block the number, and file a complaint with the FTC, FCC, and your state attorney general. Keep a log of dates, numbers, and exact wording; it strengthens any future report. If you feel unsafe, contact local law enforcement to verify any legitimate summons.

Jeff, the caller, left threatening voicemails and continued his threats when I answered the phone. I reported him and the number to the Attorney General and the FTC, as advised by all agencies that this is a scam. I confronted him about his scamming activities and informed him I had reported him to state and federal authorities, demanding he cease the calls. Since then, I have not received any further calls from him.
