Expert Opinion
Screen every unknown call before you share personal info. Callers using the Police Defense Fund or veteran charities often pressure you for donations and avoid answering basic questions. Let the phone ring out, let voicemail capture the pitch, and verify any organization through official websites or known contacts. Never agree to a percentage of your salary or commit to recurring payments without written confirmation. If the caller refuses to identify themselves or becomes hostile when you ask for details, hang up and block the number. Keep a log of repeat callers and report persistent scams to the FTC or your carrier.
