After they repeatedly called my friend with the same claims, I decided to call them back, pretending to be someone else, only to have them attempt to extract my information; upon revealing that I knew it was a scam and was recording our conversation to report to the authorities, they threatened to retaliate if they discovered my identity, confirming that it's a total scam.
He also claimed to be a lawyer, which i highly doubt.

Apparently, I've had an encounter with this same individual, who claimed to be Mike Wilson, a Head Attorney with a thick Indian accent, attempting to deceive me with a fabricated story about being sued for money laundering. Fortunately, while he was speaking, I was able to fact-check his claims by searching his phone number online and stumbled upon this forum, where I found numerous comments from others who have had similar experiences. After allowing him to finish his pitch, I informed him that his attempt was clearly a scam and that I would be reporting him to the relevant authorities, including the Federal Trade Commission and the Better Business Bureau.
You should let them know you are aware that this is a extortion scam, and that you are recoding their conversation and turning them over to the autorities
