Laatst thuis merkte ik dat mijn telefoon steeds sms‑berichten ontving van een onbekend nummer dat zich voordeed als Colruyt, Uber of een bank. Deze berichten bevatten vaak een verificatiecode of een link die zogenaamd een pakket of een prijs bevestigt. Het is belangrijk om nooit op onbekende links te klikken en nooit persoonlijke gegevens te delen via sms. Controleer altijd de afzender in de officiële app of op de website van het bedrijf. Schakel nummerblokkering in, rapporteer de sms aan je provider en overweeg een privacy‑app te installeren. Zo verklein je de kans op phishing en bescherm je je gegevens.

It's puzzling that when I sent my husband a couple of short SMS messages from my own number, he received them as if they came from 8128. All other messages I sent before and after those appeared normal, with my name and number as the sender. My phone shows all these messages as part of our conversation thread. I'm baffled by what happened.

Apparently, these scammers are at it again in Belgium, specifically in East Flanders. My 19-year-old daughter received an SMS on her iPhone, supposedly from WhatsApp, which she doesn't even use. These individuals never give up. However, the police here claim that they won't take complaints with damages less than 10,000 euros seriously, simply because there are too many.
