A group of scammers has been exposed by detectives for defrauding Ukrainians of over 100 million hryvnia. The organization consisted of more than 15 members and operated call centers in four offices in Kyiv and Chernihiv, with over 500 private entrepreneurs and 20 affiliate companies involved. The scammers would call people, claiming they had won a lottery or loyalty program, and ask them to pay for delivery of a gift. The gifts were usually household items or souvenirs, and the cost of 'delivery' covered the actual price of the gift. The victims were then encouraged to participate in the next stage of the contest, with promises of winning between 100,000 and 750,000 hryvnia. However, the scammers had no intention of paying out the grand prize.
