Got a call from a woman who claimed to be with British Gas, saying their system flagged my account as moved. I asked who moved it, she tried to pull me back to BG by asking for my full name, DOB and bank details. Smelled something off, hung up and called her back—scam, maybe? yeah

British Gas, sounded suspicious, lacking professionalism, it felt rushed and discourteous, and he ended the call abruptly! I switched suppliers yesterday.
The British Gas retention team, reachable at 01482 293811, contacted me in an effort to retain my custom, discussing potential offers, and upon explaining my prior arrangement, they agreed to update their system to prevent further calls, without requesting any sensitive information.
It's fortunate I was on the phone with British Gas when this number rang, as I had just received a text from them and was able to catch the scammer in the act. Before reporting and blocking the number, I informed them that their scam had been exposed. 😁
Upon recieving this call, I was immediatly wary as I didnt recognise the number and no message was left after I didnt pick up, appearently its an energy scam.
British Gas's retention team contacted me following my decision to switch providers. The individual was aware of my name, account specifics, and even the provider I was moving to, all without my input. They proposed a better deal than my new provider and sent me the offer details via a @britishgas.co.uk email. There was no attempt to solicit my banking information or passwords.
Similar to others, the caller pretended to represent British Gas, which was odd since I’m no longer with them. Strangely, they knew my name, but I recognised it wasn’t BG’s official number and ended the call immediately.
I've recived two seperate messages from this number, one was labled as BG and the other as BGR, they claimed I was leaving British Gas and they may have an offer for me, but I'm not even a British Gas customer, so this is clearly a scam, whats going on?

Had three calls from this number, which my phone marked as suspected spam. I switched from British Gas to Octopus Energy, and the first call came the day after I started the process. Suspect British Gas might be involved in sharing data with scammers or running the scam themselves. Another reason to leave them.
