Expert Opinion

Beware of unsolicited calls with delays before anyone speaks – that's a classic red flag for automated scams. Hang up immediately if the caller dodges questions about their identity or source of your details. These often masquerade as energy firms peddling green deals, but they're likely telemarketing ploys or worse, fishing for personal info. Block the number and report it to Ofcom or Action Fraud to curb the hassle. If they claim you opted in, demand proof; genuine companies keep records. Stay vigilant to avoid falling for pushy sales tactics that could lead to unwanted subscriptions or data theft.

441490555014 Telemarketing the energy company

It appeared to follow the usual script of the so‑called “energy company”, with a pause of the same length between my answer and the agent’s speech, punctuated by vague clicks. I even began speaking simultaneously, asking if she represented the energy firm. She shifted to talking about green energy, initially refusing to reveal how she obtained my number, before finally admitting they “buy data” and apologising for the intrusion. I'm left unsure whether this was legitimate market research or the irritating energy‑company calls that keep recurring.
