Expert Opinion

Verify any unexpected texts about payments before responding. Scammers often pose as banks or retailers like VISA, Barclays, or Argos to extract personal details. In one case, a caller claimed a £1200 debit and probed account balances, using a poor line to rush the victim. Hang up immediately if details don't match your records or if they ask for sensitive info like emails or balances. Report suspicious messages to your bank and Action Fraud. Block the number and avoid calling back. Use official apps or websites for genuine queries to stay safe from these fraudulent tactics that target trust in familiar brands.

443333391570 Scam VISA

A text urged me to call about a £1,200 debit on my VISA card. The caller said he was from VISA, but I realised my card was actually a Lloyds Visa after a recent replacement, so I mentioned that. He then spoke very quickly on a poor connection, asking me to repeat things and to slow down. When he probed my account balances I made up figures, which made me suspect the scam. He requested my email, and I said they should already have it. He put me on hold, and I ended the call.
