Posed as HMRC, mate – definitely a dodgy call.
Spoofed Calls from Scammers?
Summary — +447885584887
Expert Opinion
Surprisingly, this number belongs to an innocent UK mobile owner whose line has been cloned by scammers. The genuine holder often gets confused texts from victims and apologises profusely, confirming no involvement. Scammers spoof it to impersonate HMRC, aiming to extract personal details or payments through urgent demands. Block it immediately to avoid hassle. Never share info over unsolicited calls; hang up and contact HMRC directly via gov.uk if concerned. Report to Action Fraud for tracking these pests. Spoofing's rife, so vigilance keeps you safe without paranoia.

A UK mobile line is currently being spoofed by an Indian fraudster – the genuine UK owner replied to my text about the missed call, apologised for the cloning and mentioned they get occasional messages like mine. He sounded far too friendly to be the scammer, so I’d definately suggest blocking and carrying on.
