Expert Opinion
A caller, identified as a woman with a heavy Asian accent, claims to be from BT Openreach's technical department. She contacted users to report a supposed fault with their router speed. However, many users found the call suspicious and hung up. It's likely a scam, as BT Openreach typically doesn't make unsolicited calls about such issues. If you receive a call like this, verify the caller's identity by hanging up and dialling BT Openreach directly using a known and trusted number. Stay vigilant and never share personal information over the phone, especially with unverified callers.

A recorded message from BT Openreach’s appointment system, triggered by a fault on a business line I reported via my ISP, read out the appointment time. The voice was barely intelligible – BT, as a telecom provider, could at least use a more natural robot voice – but it did confirm the details I needed, which is why I gave it an OK rating.

A recorded voicemail from this number confirmed an Open Reach appointment, matching all my details, which suggests legitimacy; however, the robotic tone and repeated calls feel shady, so I’d avoid providing any new information.
This appears to be a scam; the Google listing isn’t hosted by Openreach but by a forum page. I’d avoid answering and advise BT to stick to official communications. Thanks to everyone flagging it.
Received a call posing as BT Openreach, alleging my internet was set to “open”. When I mentioned worries about scam calls, the caller suggested I verify using the personal network number 888DCA60 – the same identifier another commenter listed. I told them I’d contact BT directly on a separate line, after which they disconnected. Research shows 888DCA60 appears in multiple fraud schemes, from bogus network numbers to fake Microsoft IDs.

It turned out to be a scam—when I requested their name and number they spoke over me and gave an 0800 line that simply cut out, claiming my computer software was compromised. Hang up.
