BT bill scam alert – what to watch out for!

They pretended to be BT Business, demanding a £648 payment, but checking our genuine BT account proved the claim false.

A message on my answering machine claimed I hadn't paid a BT business account I don't even hold, gave a deadline to transfer funds or face disconnection – clearly a scam.

A voice with an Indian accent claimed to be BT, yet I have no BT account – obvious scam.

A landline business line was called about a huge June bill and threatened disconnection unless paid today. The Indian lady couldn’t provide any details about our firm, so I hung up.

A fraudster with an Indian accent mentioned an invoice address I didn’t recognise. Why can’t the authorities stop these scams?

He pretended to be from BT, claimed I owed a large sum, and the background bark of dogs gave him away.

A caller asked for the managing director by name – gave a fictitious name – then claimed we owed an overdue invoice. When I requested the invoice number and date, they grew aggressive, threatened a debt collector, and hung up after I said the call was being recorded. Blocked the number and didn’t provide any details.

A call from this number claimed to be BT Business, insisting it was urgent to speak with the account holder about a mobile phone debt. I told her it sounded bogus; she became rather irate. If they truly were BT, they'd already have the holder’s name. Complete scam – number blocked!

They were demanding a payment despite us using direct debit. When we mentioned this, they claimed it was a different account, yet we only hold a single one!

Two weeks ago I got a call on my mobile, and today the landline rang with a foreign‑accented female claiming to be from BT about an unpaid business invoice for a London law firm I’ve never heard of, despite having a business account. I’ve blocked the number.

I didn’t answer an unknown number, but an automated voicemail pretended to be BT reminding me of a business account payment I never have. Blocked the number.

Identical scam to the ones many others have reported.
