Expert Opinion
Avoid answering unknown 0808 calls – they’re almost always scams. Most reports link the number to fraudulent messages that pretended to be Santander, Microsoft or PayPal, aiming to steal personal details or urge a callback to a premium‑rate line. If you receive a text claiming a security alert, do not reply or call the supplied number; instead verify directly with your bank via the official website or app. Change any passwords you may have shared and monitor accounts for unauthorised activity. Report the incident to Action Fraud and consider blocking the caller on your handset to reduce future nuisance.
