Telemarkiting call recieved
The Economist subscription calls—how to stop them!
Summary — +448451200983
Expert Opinion
Yesterday evening, a familiar UK‑originating number kept popping up on my screen, demanding a subscription renewal for The Economist. The pattern matches classic telemarketing: repeated calls, pressure to confirm personal details, and vague promises of discounts. Callers often claim official status, yet they avoid leaving voicemails or written confirmation. The safest move is to block the number on your handset and report it to your carrier’s spam‑filter service. If the caller asks for payment details, hang up—legitimate companies will never request card numbers over an unsolicited call. Register your number on the national Do‑Not‑Call list and consider a third‑party call‑blocking app for extra protection.

Avoid answering
Telemarketer from the Economist, just checking subscription details. Not pushy, but still unsolicited.
Recieved three calles in four dayes. After picking up, a male voice with British accent asked to confirm my personal informations (including email and home adress) is correct, before he introduced himself and the company. I didnt tell him whether the informations were correct, but insisted on asking him about his identiy. He said he was from The Economist Subscription Servises, and that I had an unsuccesful subscription order of The Economist this May (which is the case). I started to wonder why he was caling me from the UK, as I was in the Asia-Pacific area when I attempted to subscribe, and the oficial letters from the Economist were always from Singapore. Then he started to promote a 12-week digital package with discount, and insisted on asking if I had VISA card in hand and could tell him the number, so he could immediatly help me subscribe the package. By this time, I doubted seriosly that they were faking the number and trying to cheat me. So I asked why they couldnt send an email to me directly, and he answered that email was not safe while the telephone was encrypted. Sensing my disbeleif, he continued that this was the oficial number of The Economist, and that I could google online. Finaly, I said I would have better check for myself for later consideration, and he suddenly sped up his speech and said hurriedly "thank you have a nice day bye bye".

It appears that this number is used to verify whether a line is active, potentially to sell the number to other spammers or for telemarketing purposes, and it is advisable to block such calls.

Contact was made by The Economist Magazine regarding an expired subscription.
Kept on hold for over an hour, moving from position 16 to 0, and then another 15 minutes on hold. Absolutely appalling!
Looks like it's The Economist again, they've been chasing me since my subscription expired, I'm just ignoring them!
