The caller claimed to represent Unicef, yet proceeded to ask for sensitive financial information
Is This UNICEF Donation Call a Scam?
Summary — +6449016955
Expert Opinion
The pattern here points to a persistent UNICEF‑styled donation scam that floods phones with silent or brief calls, then attempts to extract credit‑card or bank details. Recipients should let the call go to voicemail, block the number, and never share financial info. If you’ve already given details, contact your bank immediately to halt any pending transactions and consider a fraud alert. Reporting the number to local consumer protection agencies helps curb the operation. Keep an eye on your statements for unauthorized charges and educate friends about the typical script to reduce its reach.

For an entire week, this number called me every day, until finally, I answered, and a woman claiming to be from UNICEF answered, addressing me by name, which was quite suprising. She spent the next 10 minutes explaining basic facts about UNICEF, but things took a turn when she started asking for donations, which sounded extremly suspicious. She assured me that their over-the-phone credit card donations were secure, but I was unconvinced, and instead, asked her to direct me to the official UNICEF website, which she ignored, and provided a different number to give my card details, a clear indication of a scam. I declined, and told her to have a good day, feeling satisfied that I had wasted her time, rather than allowing her to succesfully scam someone else.
