Unknown calls in the Dominican Republic
Unsure about a Dominican number? Explore concise community notes to judge calls and texts. In Santo Domingo and Santiago you’ll see both legitimate callbacks (deliveries, banking, appointments) and waves of robocalls or phishing. Overlay area codes 809/829/849 and 800 toll‑free provide context but are not proof of origin due to portability and VoIP.
Verification: return calls via the official number on the provider’s website/app, check in‑app notices and never share one‑time codes by phone. Use device/carrier blocking for repeats and leave a short, factual note here to help others.

The purpose of the call was apparently related to computer issues.
The caller hung up immediately after the call was connected.
The caller claimed to be from Windows, stating they had received error reports and wanted to assist me with my computer; however, when I asked for his name and informed him I would report the call, he promptly hung up, only to call again a few hours later, highlighting the ineffectiveness of the do-not-call list for international calls.
Despite numerous daily calls, the caller refuses to identify themselves, which is quite frustrating.
After receiving five calls from this number in a single day, all claiming to be from Microsoft and warning of computer problems, I told the caller to cease contacting my household, as it constituted harassment; the caller's response was to tell me to calm down, at which point I ended the call.
After missing four calls from this number, I attempted to return the call, only to find that the number was not recognized, suggesting a possible pattern of repeated calls regarding computer issues.
A useful tactic is to tell the caller you've switched to a Mac; in my experience, this has resulted in no further calls for weeks, ending the daily harassment.
Despite being registered on the "don't call list", this number has contacted me twice in the past 24 hours, including a late-night call after 10pm.
This appears to be a scam, as the individual who called claimed to be from Microsoft and attempted to troubleshoot my computer issues, requesting that I be in front of the computer.
