Unknown calls in New Zealand
Unsure about a New Zealand number? Explore concise community notes to judge calls and texts. In Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Hamilton you’ll see a mix of legitimate callbacks (deliveries, banking, appointments) and waves of robocalls or phishing. Prefixes like 09 (Auckland), 04 (Wellington), 03 (Christchurch), 07 (Hamilton) and 02x mobile ranges don’t reliably prove location or identity because of portability and VoIP.
Verification: return calls via the official number on the company website/app, check in‑app notices and never share one‑time codes by phone. Use device/carrier blocking for repeat issues and leave a short, factual note here to help others.

A frequent short call of about 24 seconds appears to be a spam or robocall originating from Auckland.
Calls have been coming in regularly during work hours for months, and I never get a voicemail.
This appears to be a payment fraud.

Got a cold call from Broadbent (https://broadbent.co.nz/) pitching insurance brokering – they seemed to have my info, not sure if they’re legit even though they appear in the NZ company register. 🤨
Received a call claiming to act for Microsoft, probing our client’s Microsoft setups. The caller wouldn’t disclose their company name and demanded answers before explaining their purpose. (I recievd this on a Tuesday.)
Avoid answering; it's a scam.
A NZ number rang my mobile, reached voicemail and left a message: “0‑7‑7‑6‑3 – if you didn’t request this code press 1 to speak with an operator.” The voice sounded like Vyond’s “New Zealand Male” text‑to‑speech option, which I recognize from work. I suspect it’s a phishing attempt: the victim hears an unsolicited verification code, presses 1, then an operator pressures them to share login details, compromising the account. No legitimate verification works this way; if nothing is done, the account stays safe.
A midday ring left no voicemail, indicating it wasn't urgent. Number: +64 800 293 557.

Caller type, purpose, date/time and cues that guided your decision.
