Its customers can access their accounts online or through its mobile app. The SMS messages sent by HSBC are related to activation codes for customers' accounts as well as reminders about payments on credit cards. The activation codes sent via text message are valid for 24 hours only and must be kept secure as fraudsters may try to use them illegally. Also, HSBC reminds customers that making extra payments on their credit card will not reduce their direct debit amount due each month.
