غريب أن عدد كبير من الناس يتلقون مكالمات من رقم غير معروف يعلق بعد التحية ولا يقدم أي محتوى. يبدو أن هذه المكالمات تُدار بواسطة نظام آلي يختبر الأرقام النشطة، أو أن متصلين يبيعون قوائم أرقام إلى شركات تسويق هاتفي. لتقليل الإزعاج، يُنصَح بفتح تطبيق الحظر على هاتفك وحجب الرقم فوراً، وتسجيل رقمك في القائمة الوطنية عدم الإتصال. لا تجيب على المكالمات الصامتة ولا تُعطي أي معلومات شخصية، وبلغ عن الأنشطة المشبوهة إلى مزود الخدمة أو الجهات المختصة. كما يمكن استخدام تطبيقات تصفية المكالمات لتحديد المتصلين المحتملين قبل الرد.

On January 5, 2008, at approximately 5 pm, I received an unexpected call from the number 112-345-6789, which appears to be from an unfamiliar area code, possibly a new one.
