Silent Spoof Calls: The Fake Smithsonian Scam
Summary — +12317322096
Expert Opinion
Yesterday afternoon, a wave of silent, short‑duration calls bearing a "Smithsonian" caller ID has been flooding phones across multiple states. These rings usually last 10‑20 seconds before dropping, leaving no voicemail or message. The pattern points to a spoofed ID used by scammers to generate long‑distance charges or test active lines. If you receive such calls, let them go to voicemail, avoid answering, and consider blocking the number. Report the nuisance to your carrier and file a complaint with the FTC or the FCC. Stay vigilant and never share personal info with unknown callers.
