Scam employment verification calls flooding businesses!

Expert Opinion
Yesterday morning at my desk, I started noticing a surge of calls from the same Florida area code asking for employee details. The pattern is clear: callers claim to be from an "employment verification" service but rarely provide a name, a signed release, or a legitimate business reason. They often request SSN fragments, birth dates, or address info, which violates the Fair Credit Reporting Act and most state privacy laws. Block the number, log the call details, and forward the incident to the FTC and your state attorney general. Never share personal data without a written, signed consent form, and consider using a call‑screening service to weed out repeat offenders.
