Expert Opinion
Imagine getting a call from the same number over and over, only to hear silence. That pattern points to an automated scam that dials disposable lines and drops a single ring to verify a live answer. Pressing 1 actually confirms the number is active, making it more valuable to the fraudsters. The safest move is to let the call go to voicemail—or hang up instantly—and add the number to your block list. Consider registering your line with the national Do‑Not‑Call registry and using a call‑filtering app that flags repeat offenders. Staying silent and blocking early cuts off the feedback loop these scammers rely on.
