Expert Opinion
Bottom line: the 1‑800‑240‑1627 number is widely reported as a fake Scotiabank line used to harvest personal info. Callers often claim pre‑approved credit offers, know your name, and press for account details, which are classic signs of a scam. Do not share any banking data, even if the caller sounds professional. Hang up, block the number on your phone, and report the incident to Scotiabank’s fraud department and to the national anti‑fraud centre. Consider using a call‑blocking app and enable two‑factor authentication on your accounts. Stay vigilant and treat unexpected bank calls as suspicious until you verify them through official channels.
