Expert Opinion
Ever wonder why a stranger claims to be legal aid and asks for a $5 fee? That pitch is a classic scam designed to harvest personal information and lock victims into hidden recurring charges. Callers often cite “local legal aid” or “free lawyer help” to sound trustworthy, but legitimate agencies never demand payment up front or ask for banking details over the phone. If you receive such a call, hang up immediately, block the number, and report it to the FTC or your phone carrier. Never share your address, Social Security number, or credit card info until you verify the organization through an official website or known phone line.
